Dissolving resolutions 🧂🥛

Happy new year friend!

Welcome to 2023: A year of ______ (fill in the blank with whatever you want it to be)!

Right now, everywhere I look people are talking about resolutions - how to set them, how to keep them, etc. But... I'm not a New Year's resolution maker.

I have a continual resolve to grow, express my true Self more fully, become who I am, and enter into BEing. These are things I am always striving for (except when I need rest, and then I honor that).

If you make resolutions, go you! Cheering you on!! 🎉
But if you don't or would like a different take here's what I have to offer you:

Some thoughts on resolutions.

  1. You can make the decision to change at ANY time. Yes, setting a date can be helpful but so is counting to 3.
Ex.) On the count of 3, I am going to get up and move my body for 1 minute.
  2. Building habits & routines is about constantly RETURNING. Sometimes I hear people say they don't want to "start over" again. Can we reframe that idea?
Reframe: I am continuing with the decision I made.
  3. Offer yourself compassion and grace for missing a day or two, or even a week. We all "slip up" and it's okay.
¿ What do you need to bring you back to your center? Can you celebrate how far you've come?
  4. Come back to the basics. Remember your why and Keep It Simple Sweetie! Why be so hard on yourself?

And BTW, you always have the right to change your mind, change course, and you don't owe an explanation to anyone.

Consider choosing 1 habit to swap.

It can be overwhelming to try and undo a habit that you have trained yourself into for years... What if instead of setting a goal you chose 1 habit you want to change and focus on it?

Swapping habits can look like:

  • watching tv after work ➡️ walking every day
  • consuming lots of sugary drinks ➡️ drinking more water
  • letting the critic rage on unchecked ➡️ complimenting yourself

A HOW-TO:

  1. Keep it simple: choose 1 or 2 things to swap. Make them small.
  2. Know thyself: review how this habit developed into what it is and what you believe it's offering you (comfort, relaxation, etc) then consider alternatives.
  3. Give yourself reminders: keep a glass of water filled by you, set timers on your phone, or put sticky notes everywhere! Help yourself out, eh?
  4. Thank yourself: you are doing amazing things! Give yourself some credit and praise; a little gratitude goes a long way.

Wishing you a brilliantly fabulous, grounded, expansive, aligned & magickal 2023!
