Blow Off Your To-Do List…

Let’s talk dusting off & blowing off the list of things we have to do.

Hello beloved and happy New Moon!

Today the Moon (and sun) are in Virgo - this is my element y’all! Virgo is a very practical sign that loves to organize and has a meticulous eye for detail.

I have spent most of my life writing to-do lists. At one point I would write a list and then re-write it in order (Yes, this is easier on a computer but I like to do things by hand).

I love to see what I have to do and I LOVE to cross off the tasks and visually see my “accomplishment” but let me tell you a little secret… I also love to play!

Okay... maybe that’s not a secret.

But when I am operating my best I choose playing over tasks on the neverending To-Do.

What’s up with that?

This habit started when I was in college. I would get a homework assignment and designate the time it would take to work on it but then I couldn’t focus. I sat and ate snacks, and did nothing productive and soon I realized that the best part of the day was gone and I had wasted it accomplishing nothing.

ARGH! I hate that feeling!
ARGH! I hate that feeling!

After a few times of doing this enough was enough. I don’t ever want to live just to work, so I started prioritizing play.

I would check the weather and see when the day was nicest, I would do small things to set myself up for “success” and when I saw it was nice out my pup and I would head out and enjoy a nice walk, go to the park, have a picnic (alright fine, it was mostly me eating). But after I went home I was more productive than ever… And this has been proven in many studies - we need time away from work to rest AND PLAY!

Now, when you have a 9-5 this isn’t an easy thing to do but it is still important to feed your heart and soul.

So definitely make your to-do list. Know what has to happen and when you have appointments, etc.

Then see where you have space.

  • Do you have time on your lunch break to take a 10-minute walk outside?
  • Can you set a timer for 50-minute intervals and stop what you’re doing to stretch or dance?
  • Have you scheduled fun activities or visits throughout your week?

My point is sometimes (oftentimes) we have to do something that energizes us before we can perform our best in other tasks.

Okay, that’s all I’ve got for you today. I hope you are enjoying play in your life!

Talk to you soon!
💜 Julie
