The first time I had a wellness shot was at an organic juice shop in Corvallis, Oregon called White Winds Superfoods. It has since closed which is heartbreaking for me as it was one of my favorite places to splurge on myself while I was in college.

ANYWAY…

I was stressed from studying, drama, and my immune system was a strugglin’. I saw this kind of wellness shot on the menu and decided, what the heck, why not? They served it to me with a tiny apple juice chaser and I thought I won’t need that!

Not only did I need that chaser, it took my 5 tries to choke down the concoction. I felt a little nauseous as it hit my stomach… Now, I know I’m not really selling it but let me tell you - it got better. I could tell there were some potent, healthy components that I really needed and I went back and when I got it again it took 2 tries. After that, I would go and just down it, grab my smoothie and be on my way.

When I moved away I actually missed this weird little potion so I looked up wellness shots, reviewed a bunch I found online, and made my own version. This recipe has been adjusted to be a bit smoother but you can change the ratios to fit your needs if you like. The carrot mellows things out a bit but don't leave out the garlic!

It is super easy to make and is meant to help give your immune system a boost as it is packed with ingredients that are known for their healthy properties. I hope you take a chance and try this recipe!

Wellness Shot Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 garlic cloves (antiviral and antibacterial properties)
  • 2/3 of a smedium carrot (good for eyes & health-promoting properties)
  • 1.5 Tbsp lemon juice (vitamin C, good for skin and digestion)
  • 1 tsp ground/powder ginger - I used paste (anti-inflammatory, digestive aid, and helps nausea)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (antibacterial & anti-inflammatory)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric (antiviral, energy & joint support)
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne (reduce inflammation, alleviates certain kinds of pain)
  • 1/2 c hot water

Optional additions:

  • Apple cider vinegar (relieves acid reflux symptoms, and lowers blood pressure & cholesterol)
  • Honey (antimicrobial and antioxidant properties)

Directions

  1. Blend or juice the garlic and carrot, add hot water, and let soak.
  2. Strain into a container (optional 😜)
  3. Mix in the remaining ingredients.
  4. Enjoy!

Take 2 Tbsp (30 mL) up to 3 times a day, I recommend not on an empty stomach. Makes about 6 servings, save the remaining liquid in the fridge for 2-3 days.
